Methods: This quasi-experimental study performed in two stages before and after protocol implementation with the participation of 64 patients with burns. After developing the protocol, caring of burned hand(s) patients in men and women wards of Sina hospital implemented based on our protocol. The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) used to determine the severity of pain and itching. The Petersburg and Michigan hand questionnaires used to measure sleep patterns and hand function on the first, seventh, discharge, and one month after discharge, respectively. Data analysis performed by SPSS software using mixed repeated measurements Design. Results: The results showed that the mean difference in sleep scores in all three-time periods was lower in the intervention group than in the control group. In addition, both groups the mean of itching scores was increased gradually and in the control group was increased by 2/906 score (p <0.001) from the day of discharge to one month later. The mean difference in pain severity at both period was significantly lower than the control group (P <0.001). Also, except on the seventh day, the mean scores of hand performance in the intervention group showed better outcomes rather than the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that using caring and dressing protocol for burned hand patients is effective in improving sleep patterns, itching, pain control and hand function in burn patients. Therefore, this protocol can be used to care of patients with hand burns.
