Correlation of Moral Inteligence With Suicide Attempt Patients Referred To Emergency Departmant of Sina Hospital Tabriz 2017
Abstract
Suicide is one of the major causes of mortality, especially in adolescents and young people, and suicide attempts have a significant financial and life burden on patients. Given the ability to promote moral and emotional intelligence, the relationship between emotional and moral intelligence with suicidal ideation and
suicide attempts needs to be investigated. The aim of this study was to correlate
moral intelligence with suicide attempt in a group of patients referring to the
emergency department because of limited study of the relationship between moral
.intelligence and suicide
Materials & Methods:
In this case-control study, 100 patients referred to the Sina hospital emergency
ward in Tabriz in 2017 for suicide attempted drug poisoning and 100 patients
referred for other reasons for moral intelligence. Lenik and Kiel (2005)
questionnaire was used to assess the level of moral intelligence. Also, the general
health questionnaire was completed for all participants in the study, which was
lower than 15 in the control group. Demographic variables and type of drug were. also recorded and analyzed among patients with suicide attempt
Results:
of patients referred to suicide attempt were male and 46% were female. Most %54
of the patients (87%) were suicidal in urban areas with suicide attempt and opiate,
acetaminophen and antidepressant and antifungal drugs were the most commonly used suicide drugs respectively. Comparison of the score of moral intelligence showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups in the total score of moral intelligence and its different subscales. Despite the difference in moral intelligence, the GHQ-12 General Health Questionnaire showed that the general health of patients admitted to suicide was significantly lower than the normal population
