Assessment the efficacy of local Tranexamic Acid in reducing blood loss after laminectomy and postrolateral fusion of spine
Abstract
Degenerative spinal stenosis and spinal instability counted as important indications for surgery of some levels of spinal cord. They usually associated with a lot of bleeding during the surgery and after that. In recent studies demonstrated that antifibrinolytic drugs use during the surgery can reduce bleeding after the operation. The drug which use more than other antifibrinolytic is Tranxesamic Acid (TXA).
Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy of local Tranexamic Acid in reducing blood loss after laminectomy and postrolateral fusion of spine
Method and materials: In this case-control study 80 patients from janury 2013 to janury 2015 enrolled to the study who was eligible for laminectomy for 2 or more than 2 level and postero-lateral fusion with pedicular screw. The results were analysed by SPSS (ver.18).
Results: From 80 patients 30 (60%) was female and 20 (40%) was male. Invetigation of difference between case and control group based on bleeding in the first 12 hours was significant (p = value = 12). The difference between the two groups according to the amount of bleeding in the second 12 hours was not significant, but the difference between the two groups based on the total bleeding after There was no meaningful difference between the two groups according to the total number of bleeding during operation. The difference between the two groups based on the total length of hospitalization was not significant.
