Abstract
Introduction: Vaginal flatus is a common complaint amongst women referring to gynecologic clinics. This symptom tends to accompany with pelvic floor disorders and the unpleasant feeling due to it, is extremely disturbing. No accurate studies have been conducted to evaluate this symptom and the efficiency of the current treatments, so far, which will be evaluated in this very study. Methods: Ninety patients referring to Al-Zahra and Taleghani hospitals, in Tabriz, from May 2016 to February 2017, who were complaining about vaginal wind and flatus, were recruited in this study. These patients were divided into 3 groups of treatment with physiotherapy, pessary and surgery and the effects of the therapies were evaluated on their quality of life, quality of sexual life and alleviating their symptoms. Results: Mean age of the patients was 52.56±14.44. The difference between 3 groups was significant (P<0.001). Generally, within all patients, 88 time of natural vaginal delivery (NVD) and 21 times of Cesarean section (C/S) were reported and only 2 cases (2.2%) were nulliparous. 77 patients (85.6%) had some degrees of pelvic issues like dysuria, incontinence and dyspareunia. This difference was not significant among groups (P=0.70). Comparing 3 groups regarding the effects of treatment on their sexual life and daily life quality, the difference was significant (p<0.001 and P=0.01, respectively). Evaluating the relation between treatment method and sexual life satisfaction, a significant relation between groups was found (P<0.001), which was higher satisfaction in 1st group. Evaluating the treatment methods and their effects on the patients and their satisfaction, no significant difference was observed (P=0.90). However, though no significant relation was established here (P=0.58), satisfaction towards pessary was the highest and towards surgery, was the lowest
