Comparison of antithyroid peroxidase relationship with gestational diabetes treatment
Abstract
Gestational diabetes refers to glucose intolerance during pregnancy and accounts for about 7% (1-14%) of all pregnancies in the United States. The mechanism of gestational diabetes is mainly due to increased insulin resistance. The presence of thyroid antibodies can also increase insulin-producing inflammatory cytokines, but a mechanism that suggests a relationship between thyroid antibodies and increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus is unclear.Given the relatively high prevalence of gestational diabetes and its associated maternal and fetal complications, the aim of this study was to compare the treatment in gestational diabetes and its relation to thyroid peroxidase antibody.
Methods and Materials:
This cross-sectional study was performed on patients between the ages of 20 and 30 years with a blood glucose test or glucose tolerance test of 75 gr and After applying exclusion criteria, 102 patients were selected for the study. 52 patients with positive thyroid peroxidase and 50 patients with negative thyroid peroxidase were enrolled. Patients with high blood glucose levels of 105 mg / dl were initially treated with insulin And other patients were prescribed diets or metformin based on their blood sugar levels. Their blood glucose was measured and controlled serially, and given appropriate treatment trials for patients.
Results:
According to the results, there were no significant differences in age and body mass between the two groups of positive thyroid peroxidase antibody and negative thyroid peroxidase antibody in gestational diabetes. The results showed that fasting blood glucose, one-hour fasting blood glucose, and 2-hour fasting glucose were significantly higher in the thyroid peroxidase positive antibody group than in the negative thyroid peroxidase group. There was a significant difference in the frequency of insulin intake and diet between the two groups, thyroid peroxidase positive and thyroid peroxidase negative.
