Comorbid psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents admitted to Imam Reza Hospital with brain tumors

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the comorbid psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents with primary brain tumor before and after surgery. Methods and materials: This study was performed on patients under the age of 18 years who were less than six months of diagnosis and intelligence above 75. Diagnosis of psychiatric disorder based on DSM-IV and K-SADS criteria. One month after the surgery, the semi-structured interviews with K-SADS and VAS were repeated and the results were compared before and after. Results: A total of 80 patients with an average age of 11.66 ± 3.86 with an average intelligence of 95.6 ± 13.41 were evaluated. In 75% of patients, no psychiatric disorders were found, 10% had separation anxiety disorder, 8.75% had major depressive disorder and 6.25% had adjustment disorder. One month after surgery, no change was found in the preoperative findings. In the study of the relationship between anatomical location and the pathology of tumors, the association between these disorders with the type of pathology and anatomical location of the tumors was not found.
