Comparison of lateral malleolus fracture treatment method method with close pinning and open surgery and plating
Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the treatment of lateral malleolus fracture with closed pinnig technique with open platting surgery.
Methods: Sixty patients with lateral malleolus fracture or bimalleolus fractures were selected. They were divided into two groups according to sex and age. Thirty patients underwent closed pinning surgery and 30 patients underwent open-platting surgery. The two groups were compared for infection, union and skin necrosis.
Result: All patients in both groups had complete union and no significant association was found in the rate of infection. Only one case was seen in open platting surgery. No cases of skin necrosis were found in either the closed-pin method or the open-plate method
