چکیده
Objective: To evaluate the reliability of positive fecal calprotectin in predicting inflammatory colonic changes in patients with chronic diarrhea referred to the gastrointestinal and infectious clinic of Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz during 1993-97 undergoing colonoscopy. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-cross sectional study, people who referred to Imam Reza Medical Center with chronic diarrhea in 1993-97 and positive fecal calprotectin test were selected and studied. According to Gastrointestinal routine; colonoscopy is performed for all patients with chronic diarrhea and positive stool calprotectin. Patients who did not consent to a colonoscopy with the recommendation of a physician and other patients who met exclusion criteria were excluded and the rest were selected to continue the study and the outcome of their colonoscopy results was assessed by disease type. Also we decide to add colonoscopy results of patients with complaints other than chronic diarrhea to evaluate better. Results: In this study, out of 689 patients who underwent fecal calprotectin test at Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz between years 93 and 97, 185 positive cases were selected for follow-up. Patient chief compliant was extracted and classified into two groups: chronic diarrhea (n = 95) and non-chronic diarrhea (n = 90). Those who were admitted were selected: 62 patients with chronic diarrhea and 21 with non-chronic diarrhea remained. Again, those who did not consent to colonoscopy and those who did not meet the exclusion criteria were excluded from the study. Finally, 53 patients with chronic diarrhea (group 1) and 10 patients with non-chronic diarrhea group (group 2) remained in study. The colonoscopy results divided into two groups of IBD and non-IBD for better evaluation. Statistical analysis showed significant relationship between IBD and age of patients (P value = 0.002) and also there was a significant relationship between IBD and chronic diarrhea in patients (P value = 0.000).
