Evaluation of the correlation between daily computer game playing time and bruxsim in children 4-12 yo reffering to the tabriz faculty 2018-19
Abstract
Introduction:
Bruxsim is one of the main oral habits which is able to destroy mouth tissues, happening in two forms of daily and nocturnal. Bruxsim can be mostly related to two main groups of peripheral (morphological) factors and central factors. In the past, different local factors such as occlusal interference, bone structure and form,… were considered as the main reasons of bruxsim generation, however, today these factors play less role in bruxsim generation. Recently, central factors such as stress are mostly developed, playing more crucial role in this field.
Computer games play an important role in modern society. Although its primarily providing entertainment,it can be effectively used for education.
One of the main effects of these games is increased stress and such stress results in increased compulsivity among children.
According to what was mentioned earlier it can be understood that one of the main reasons of bruxsim among children is stress and computer games cause increased level of stress among children. Considering the importance of stress and bruxsim in children’s lives and uncontrolled growth of computer games, in this study we proceeded on investigation of the correlation between daily computer game playing time and bruxsim phenomenon.
Methods and materials:
The present study is a cross sectional study and its data were collected using clinical examination and questioner.
Statistical population of the study (n=90) involved 45 girls and 45 boys (aged 4-12) who referred to pediatrics department of Faculty of Dentistry of Tabriz.
Data analysis: chi-squared test and Fisher exact test and in depended T- Test was used to investigate the relationship between bruxsim and computer games using duration.
The obtained data were analyzed using statistical analysis software SPSS 17.
Results:
In this study age and gender-based bruxsim frequency investigation revealed that age does not affect bruxsim frequency, however, bruxsim frequency is significantly high among boys than girls.
Conclusion:
Moreover, results of the study indicated that there is no direct relationship among use of computer games, its duration and times of using it and suffering from bruxism phenomenon.
