Developing a Hospital Performance Assesment Model for Patients Management with Trraffic Injures

Introduction: Traffic accidents are a major cause of death worldwide, especially in developing countries. The increasing cost of health care and the difference in the quality of provided services between different trauma centers indicate the need to assess trauma care performance. Therefore, this study was designed and implemented for developing a hospital performance assessment model in traffic injures management.
Methods and Materials: The present study was a qualitative-quantitative study. So,first ، the preventable death and patients functional status were studied as two fixed part of the assessment model. Then, other trauma care performance indicators were identified based on the literature review and experts perspective. The next step involved designing an assessment model based on previous steps. After finalizing the components and final form of the model, it was implemented in imam Reza Hospital.
Results: 71 deaths were identified due to traffic accidents. Study of patients functional status showed that the most functional problem was related to persons’ mobility. A total of 50 trauma care indicators were approved after reviewing the literature and obtaining the views of experts. The final model designed to assess hospital performance in traffic injury management included six components of assessment level, assessment teams, assessment method, timing, assessment frequency and use of information. The problems were identified in information recording, patient triage, and waiting time for emergency department operationss.
Conclusion: Pedestrians and young people were the most victims of traffic accidents in this study. Performance assessment in the form of a model will identify deficiencies related to services and if appropriate intervention is performed, it will reduce the number of victims and improve outcomes for families, the community, and the health.
