Development and implementation of Safe and Health Promoting Community Model- Sahand

Abstract: Introduction: Regarding the similarities of Safe community and Healthy city programs on the principles, appeoaches and strategies, a joint model comprising two models neccessities could be designed. Aim: The aim of this study was to development and implementation of safe and health promoting community joint model in Sahand. Methods: This is an apllied and interventional study. Using safe community and healthy city concepts, a perliminary joint application model was developed and then assessed through Delphi technique and pannel sessions by experts. Required inter-sectoral committees for joint model implementation was established and action plans were developed and implemented. Finally, joint model implementation was assessed using process and outcome indicators. Results: Safe and Health ptomoting joint model was developed including 14 dimenssions, 39 sub-dimenssions and 7 values. Project organization was done in Sahand city through 5 intersectoral committees, scientific and executive secretaries and also a provincial steering committee. Totally, 40 intersectoral sessions were held and more than 80 initiatives in various areas including traffic safety, population impowernment, healthy life style promotion and etc were implemented. Sahand safe and health promoting community have got 79% of predeined process indicators. Conclusions: Safe and health promoting community model provides a more comperhensive view on safety and health in a commuity. The joint model will lead to more efficiency and effectiveness in safety and health promotion initiatives. Increasing intersectoral cooprations and creating safety and health promotion attitude in stackholders was apeared in Sahand.
