Title: Evaluation of Nursing Information Systems using the HIS-Monitor instrument; Nurses Perspectives

Abstract: Introduction: Nurses are one of the largest providers of health and treatment services in their various areas of treatment and management are in need of well-designed information systems. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate nursing information systems from nurses of Perspectives based on HIS-Monitor model in Tabriz educational hospitals in order to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Methods: This was a descriptive- cross- sectional study. This study was done in for one year. The study subjects included nursing staff of educational hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences Iran who used HIS. For this study, we used the HIS-Monitor instrument which comprises 107 specific questions that we selected those 41specific questions from the original HIS-Monitor survey that were relevant for nurses in four criteria. The validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by expert and reliability of the instrument was calculated by Cronbach Alpha (a=0/88). Sampling was done using cluster sampling that included275 nurses. The data were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistics using SPSS software version 16. Results: Findings showed the most satisfaction rate of the nurses with NIS according to the criteria of HIS-Monitor were as the following: Nursing admission (50/8%); Access to patient -related information(47/7%) ; Documentation of nursing care(48/1%) and the most dissatisfaction rate was Creation and update of a nursing care plan with 25 percent. Conclusion: According to the results of the study, it can be stated that the status of nursing information systems is not desirable and requires more attention from designers and manufacturers of hospital software.
