Designing and Evaluating Pediatric Neurology electronic registration system in Hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences
چکیده
Abstract
Background: Provision of high quality care and development of proper control,
prevention and evaluation programs for pediatric neurological diseases require
timely and perfect collection, storage, and analysis of data pertaining to these
patients.
Aim:The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate an electronic system
for registration and storage of data related to pediatric neurological diseases in the
hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
Methods and materials: In this applied-developmental study, the features and
minimum data set of the registration system were determined by reviewing the
scientific literature and consulting with experts on the subject. The Unified
Modeling Language (UML) was used to develop the conceptual model of the
system in the software Visual Paradigm. The conceptual diagram was evaluated
with the Verification & Validation method, and after revision, ASP.NET and C#
were used to design the system with three-layer architecture in the Microsoft
Visual Studio 2012 environment. Performance of the designed system was
evaluated with the help of User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ).
Results: Elements of the minimum data set were categorized into four groups:
demographic, clinical, para-clinical, and follow-up. Results of the evaluation
showed that, in the design of this diagram, about 75% of syntax rules, 62% of
semantic rules, 80% of aesthetic rules are observed. Comparison of the system
developed based on the designed conceptual model with 240 previous studies
showed its excellent quality in terms of attractiveness, efficiency, dependability,
and novelty and its good quality in terms of perspicuity and stimulation.
Conclusion: The use of conceptual design and evaluation methods led to
development of a more efficient system. Merits of the designed system include
shortened time and higher accuracy in data entry and improved disease data
documentation.
