Comparison of Articular Eminence slope in the skeletal growth patterns of horizontal dimension in the CBCT images of the patients referred to the radiology department of Tabriz university in 2017-2018
Abstract
Object: Numerous factors can affect Articular Eminence. By identifying these factors can distinguish normal cases from abnormalities. The object of this study is comparison of articular eminence slope in the skeletal growth patterns of horizontal dimension in the CBCT images.
Method and materials: The CBCT images of 120 patients who had referred to Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology department because of implant placement or other dental problems were studied. Using Steiner analysis was also analyzed, and their relation were studied. Patients with complete skeletal development, with no joint disease, and no history of fracture and surgery were studied.
Results: The comparison of Articular Eminence slope on the right and left sides according to the normality of the data distribution was performed by the paired t-test. The results showed that the differences between these values, in both gender which was more on the left than right was 3.78 degrees. This difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). The Articular Eminence slope on the right and left sides had a significantly positive correlation of 0.63 (p<0.001). There was also a significant correlation between men’s ANB angle and left condyle slope and its correlation coefficient was reported to be 28% (p= 0.01). The data obtained from the study was analyzed by SPSS-17 software.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study slope of Articular Eminence on the left side was more than right side. The relation of slope of Articular Eminence and angle of ANB was not significant, except in the left side in men, with a low correlation. For the rest of the cases the angle of ANB and slope of Articular Eminence didn’t show any significant relation.
