investigation of salivary bacterial flora and PH of mental retarded children in tabriz tooba welfare prganization
Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bacterial flora and saliva pH of mentally retarded children residing in Tuba Wellbeing Center in Tabriz in 2018. Methods: In this study, 4 important oral bacterial species including Streptococcus mutans, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus and Escherichia coli and salivary pH of children with mental retardation were studied. Statistical results were analyzed by SPSS 17 using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The mean salivary pH of the patients with mental retardation was 7.75. Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans, Enterococci and Escherichia coli had the highest and lowest bacterial counts, respectively. Conclusion: In this study, the salivary pH of people with mental retardation was slightly higher and the gram-positive bacteria accounted for most of the microbial flora bacteria in the mouth.
