Studying the trends of recorded medical errors in Tabriz between the years 2003-2013
Abstract
Abstract Background : Occurrence of medical errors is one of the problems of health systems which can affect the quality of delivered services. Aim :The present study aimed to study recorded medical errors in Tabriz between the years 2003-2013. Method And Material: This is a descriptive and analytical study which has been done to study recorded medical errors in Tabriz between the years 2003-2013. All the documents and reports related to recorded medical errors in Tabriz hospitals have been checked. Also all the records of Medical Council and Forensics between 2003 and 2013 have been studied. Descriptive statistics and related statistical tests were used to analyse the data. Results: results showed that the most complaints were against gynaecologists, orthopaedics and dentists. The most recorded medical errors in Tabriz hospitals had been occurred by nursing staff, management team and midwifes. The majority of medical errors have been recorded by educational hospitals. There wasn’t significant relationship between the cases leaded to death and not leaded to death with medical negligence. Conclusion: according to the results of the study, for decreasing the medical errors, the information must to be recorded and assessed properly and accurately. Then proper interventions need to be designed to reduce the errors. Keywords: medical errors, Medical Council, Forensics
