The survey of organizational resilience in dealing with major accidents in Tabriz large-scale industries
Abstract
Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: Disasters, accidents and crises are complex and controversial issues for industries and organizations. Organizational resilience is an effective goal that continuously helps the organization's performance throughout the business, disasters, and critical situations. Therefore, the present study aims at designing and validating the organizational resilience questionnaire in dealing with major accidents, comparing the level of organizational resilience in the large-scale industries of Tabriz, weighting the dimensions of organizational resilience and providing resilience improvement strategies in organizations.
Methodology and Materials: In this descriptive-analytical-applicable research, organizational resilience questionnaire was first designed and then for the validating questionnaire, the CVI, CVR and Cronbach's alpha coefficients were calculated. Subsequently, the questionnaire designed in a special form was provided to experts. Weighting dimensions and items of the questionnaire were done by using raw data obtained from questionnaires, AHP method and SuperDecisions software, after receiving their comments. In the next step, the final questionnaire was distributed among the studied population. So, the raw data from 558 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS-23 software. Finally, based on the results, the most important strengths and weaknesses of the organizations were determined and various strategies were presented to improve the potential weaknesses.
Results: Face validity was determined qualitatively. The CVI and CVR indices for all dimensions and items of the questionnaire were higher than their standard values and their values for the whole questionnaire were calculated to be 0.93 and 0.86 respectively. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the whole questionnaire was calculated to be 0.967, which indicates that this index is excellent in the study. Also, according to the findings of weighting the dimensions of the questionnaire, the highest and lowest amount of weight was allocated to the dimension of the leadership and decision-making and the dimension of the resources respectively. Regression analysis showed that organizational resilience has a significant relationship with some of the demographic variables such as age, gender, job history, marital status, organizational status, job type and exposure to major accidents. Also, the results of the study revealed that the level of any dimensions of organizational resilience and total organizational resilience in all three organizations was weak and unacceptable.
Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that the designed questionnaire has acceptable validity and reliability. To examine organizational resilience in organizations, it can be used as a comprehensive, powerful and reliable tool. On the other hand, the big and critical organizations, especially the selected industries in this study, can focus and improve the effective indices based on priority, such as the leadership and decision-making, the use of the knowledge and experience, and the management commitment, to improve the management of safety and organizational resilience. Modification and improvement of these indicators by applying scientific and engineering strategies will lead to an improvement in the level of safety and resilience in the organizations.
