Estimation and analysis of costs of type 2 diabetes in patients referred to selected educational and medical centers in Tabriz - 2016

Abstract
Abstract: Diabetes is the most important causes of chronic renal failure in the world and can be considered one of those diseases that have sought to threaten public health (14). According to research conducted about %10 of people in Iran are at risk of diabetes among which approximately 5 million people have diabetes (6). About %9 of healthcare costs are spent on diabetes yearly (9). As regards problems facing diabetic patients is increasing the cost of community. This study aimed to estimate the cost of type 2 diabetes in Tabriz in 2017. Methods: This study was a descriptive- analytic and prospective that done in 2017. Study setting was three hospitals (emam reza, sina and asad abadi). The target population included all patients referred to these hospitals. We used Convenience sampling and continuous. To estimate the costs of hospitalization, due to the question posed in the check list based on history of hospitalization referred to the centers and records received from the Medical Records Department. The cost of hospitalization was extracted. Then by using SPSS version 24 was analyzed. Findings: Of the total direct costs was %66.44and %59.7 for hospitalized patients and outpatients respectively. The highest cost rate was related to type 2 diabetes patients. Direct medical cost was %28.67 for inpatient and%37.6for outpatient. On the other, indirect medical costs was two parts (patients %4.91 and outpatient %2.7 .( Conclusion: According to the results study, the government is better for the elderly, disabled and poor to consider subsidies, even some services provide free. Also screening has done for those over 40 years and those who have risk factors like family history and obesity.
