Frequency of Metabolic Syndrome in Azeri Patients with First Episode of non-affective Psychotic Disorder
Abstract
Considering the differences in the prevalence of this syndrome in different ethnic groups, including Azeri, and considering that there are no significant studies in Iran regarding the prevalence of metabolic syndrome among psychiatric patients, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in the population of psychiatric patients Iran looks useful. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in Azari patients in the first episode of non-affective psychiatric disorders.
Materials and Methods: Patients were included according to the criteria for entering and leaving the study. Blood samples were collected from patients after 14 hours of fasting for glucose, triglyceride and HDL. The questions in the data collection form include age, sex, marital status, education, history of taking psychiatric drugs, history of blood sugar with fat or blood pressure and the positive family history of each of them, the name and dosage of psychiatric drugs that the patient has in two last month has consumed and consumed them. Waist circumference, weight and blood pressure were measured and recorded according to their scientific methods.
Results: The mean ± standard deviation of the patients' age was 29.87 ± 10.89 years with mean age of 29 years. Most of the patients were males (64.4%). The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in this study was 16.1%. Also, there was a significant difference between TG and HDL in patients with metabolic syndrome compared with non-affected psychiatric patients.
