Frequency of bacterial infections of the skin in patients with autoimmune blistering disease admitted to Hospital
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the frequency of different types of bacterial skin infections and their associated risk factors in patients with ABD at Tabriz city.
Methods & Materials:
This retrospective-prospective study was performed on 47 patients with ABD who were admitted to at Sina University-Hospital of Tabriz during 2017. To determine the frequency of bacterial infections and identify the associated risk factors, several variable including age, sex, type of ABD, hospitalization information, history of diseases and medications, patient symptoms, nasal swab analysis, wound swab analysis in time of admission and 1 week after. Data were analyzed using SPSS software.
Results:
In this study 28 females and 19 males with an average age of 55 ± 17.2 years old were included. Pemphigus vulgaris and bolus pemphigus were the most common types of ABD in patients. In 72.3% of patients, bacterial skin infections were detected, of which 59.6% had infection at time of admission and 12.7% got it during a week after admission. One patient was died during the study. MSSA was the most frequent bacterial organism. No significant association was found between the incidence of bacterial infections and the severity of ABD, accompanying diseases, consumed immunosuppressive medication, duration and frequency of hospitalization.
