Comparison of the quality of the obturation based on available voids in three obturation techniques with cone beam CT
چکیده
Background
Purpose of root canal filling in endodontic treatment is to prepare an appropriate seal and minimum voids to prevent the need of retreatment . different techniques and materials have been introduced over time to improve root canal treatment quality . aim of this study is to compare the quality of the obturation in three root canal filling techniques based on available voids with cone beam CT after root canal filling .
Material and Method
Thirty-three single-rooted teeth were collected and root canal-prepared . the roots were randomly allocated into three groups . groups obturated with single-cone , lateral compaction with cold gutta-percha and vertical compaction with warm gutta-percha . Roots were scanned and existence of void evaluated in levels of 1, 3, 5 and 7 mm from apex . After that voids area and volume measured with mimics 10.01 software .
Results
The present study showed a significant difference in level 1 mm from apex between lateral compaction group with vertical compaction and single-cone groups but no significant difference found between vertical compaction with single-cone in this level . In other levels no significant difference found between groups . The highest percentage of voids in all groups was in level 7 mm from apex (60/6 % ) and the lowest was in level 1 mm from apex (12/1 % ) .
Conclusion
In level 1 mm from apex , vertical compaction and single-cone techniques showed more successful compared to lateral compaction technique in percentage of voids, area ratio and volume of voids, but the results of vertical compaction and single-cone techniques was similar . In other levels all techniques were similar . According to this study and similar studies single-cone technique with using bioceramic sealer (TotalFill) and coated gutta-percha was successful than using other root filling materials .
