Nurses Learning and Teaching Style Preferences "in-service training" Courses of Tabriz university of Medical Sciences

Abstract

Abstract: Introduction: Knowledge about staff’s learning and teaching styles can play a basic role in progress, continuation of work and success of all of the organizations. One of the major courses in training nurses as the prevailing manpower in medical sciences organizations is in-service courses. This study was carried out with the aim of surveying nurse’s preferred learning and teaching styles in in-service training courses of Tabriz University of medical sciences. Materials and method: The present study is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which 400 nurses employed in health centers of one of the universities in northwest of Iran were selected by using of simple random method. Three- part questionnaire of individual – social characteristics, Kolb’s questionnaire and teaching style questionnaire were used in order to collect the data. The data was analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistical tests in SPSS software ver 21. Results: The results of the present study showed that, the under-research nurse’s preferred learning methods are the feeling dimension and in terms of the type of learner’s preferred tutor. Thus, two dominant learning styles are the convergent and attractive learning styles. Discussion and conclusion: Considering the domination of convergent learning style as well as the type of learner’s preferred tutor among nurses, it is recommended to use teaching methods tailored to this style that include the use of diagram, showing, lecture and self-learning with readable matters.
