Abstract
Abstract: Title: The Comparison of music therapy and Aromatherapy on the quality of sleep and Physiological indices of patients with acute myocardial infarction: A randomized clinical trial. Introduction: Patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted to the hospital due to psychological, environmental, physiological, and motor and social constraints disturb sleep quality and Quantity, and altered physiological parameters such as increased heart rate and blood pressure, these changes Increase the length of hospitalization and recovery, increase physical and mental disability, and increase mortality. Today, Complementary and traditional therapies are more preferred because of the complications of pharmacological treatments, the use of lavender and music therapy has been used to improve the quality of sleep and the physiological characteristics of the past few decades. Few studies in Iran have been carried out in this field, and the results of most of them are not compatible. In addition, the study that studies these two complementary interventions in patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted to the intensive care unit is not available. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of therapeutic music and aromatherapy on sleep quality and physiological characteristics of patients. Under acute myocardial infarction Materials and Methods: This single-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted on 129 patients with acute myocardial infarction admitted to the coronary care unit of Tabriz Shahid Madani Hospital, Iran in 2017. By using the block randomization technique, patients were randomly assigned to three groups of music therapy, aromatherapy and control. In the music therapy group, the patients listened to the relaxing music for 30 to 45 minutes from 9PM, and the patients in the aromatherapy group inhaled four drops of pure lavender essential oil from 9 PM to 6 AM in their bed. Patients in the control group did not receive any intervention from the researchers. The study was performed for three consecutive nights, and Patients in all three groups received routine interventions from the department staff. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) measured patients' sleep quality. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 19. In addition, multiple linear regression tests, Chi-square, Fisher exact test, ANOVA, Independent t-test and paired T-test were used. Results: The results of this study showed that there is a significant difference between the mean change in sleep quality scores in the three groups (p = 0/000) Also, there was a significant difference between the changes in systolic blood pressure (p = 0/046), respiratory rate (p = 0.000), and arterial oxygen saturation (p = 0/001), in patients in the three groups. But there was no statistically significant difference between the mean arterial blood pressure (p = 0.144), diastolic blood pressure (p = 0/531), heart rate (p =0/87) and body temperature (p = 0/191). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that both music and aromatherapy interventions can improve the sleep quality of patients with acute myocardial infarction, Also, music therapy can improve systolic blood pressure and oxygen saturation in the arterial blood of these patients, and the Aromatherapy also has only an improvement in the number of respiratory tract patients, Therefore, it is recommended that the nurses of the cardiothoracic care unit who take care of these patients can use complementary and traditional medicine to improve these variables.
