Abstract
Introduction: Identification of the desirable characteristics of a teacher is very important. Because these characteristics facilitate the training process and even compensate for the textbooks defects and lack of educational facilities. Recognition of these features helps the teachers to have better educational plans and achieve predefined learning goals. This study was conducted by the aim of “evaluating the quality of performance of the elite professor from the perspective of the specialized dentistry assistants of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences during the academic year 2017-2018.” Materials and Methods: This research was descriptive and cross-sectional conducted on specialist assistants of the Faculty of Dentistry of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Sampling was as census. Data were collected using a three-part questionnaire containing some of the demographic specifications of the participating assistants without mentioning the assistant’s name, the factors related to the individual-social characteristics of the professor and the factors related to the professor’ educational activities. The respondents responded as Likert scale in a three-point scale (high, medium, low). The data were analyzed using SPSS17 software and Chi-Square analysis. Findings: Fourteen participants were male and twenty participants were female. The lowest age for the participants was 24 years and the highest age was 33 years. The average age of participants was 27.8 years. Of the 34 participants who participated in the study, 76.5% considered the evaluation forms referable. The results of statistical analysis of the obtained data showed that among the professors’ individual and social characteristics, “academic degree” and “intimate and effective relationships with residents” were significantly lower than the rest (P <0.05). Of the positive personal and social characteristics of professors, it can be referred to as “accessibility”, “interest in teaching” and “observance of spiritual and moral norms” respectively. Also, among the educational activities of the professors from the perspective of the specialized assistants, “changing the sound tone proportionate to the classroom situation” and “classroom question and answer at the right time” and “the effectiveness of the assignments in the resident’s understanding” are significantly less than other cases (P <0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that “academic degree” and “intimate and effective relationships with residents” require changes for improvement and also among the educational activities of the professors from the perspective of the specialized assistants, “changing the sound tone proportionate to the classroom situation” and “classroom question and answer at the right time” and “the effectiveness of the assignments in the resident’s understanding” are significantly less than other cases. However, the professors’ educational activities such as “possessing sufficient information on the subject”, “proportionate lesson content in each session to the total lesson goal” and “lack of wasting time in the class” are in desirable level.
