Abstract
Background: Islamic texts clearly indicate that one of the most important items mentioned in religious texts is preventive medicine. Islamic literature has repeatedly pointed to the need to prevent the occurrence of illness. Despite the many recommendations in oral literature on oral hygiene, in books and scientific articles, these orders have not been effectively used to improve oral health. Therefore, this study was designed and evaluated to study the Quranic verses, Hadiths and opinions of the religious jurists about oral health and treatment of oral lesions. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a systematic review. Initially searching for studies in the databases of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Google scholar, Proquest, web of science and science direct for English articles and the Civilica, Google scholar, ISC, Noor, SID, Iran doc and Danesh Gostar Barakat for Persian studies were done. The articles were then assessed based on the critical evaluation. The articles obtained from the study in terms of title, abstract and full text were screened and poor quality studies were excluded. Results: After searching the databases, 154 articles were obtained. After studying the title and abstracts of the articles, and applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a full text of 15 articles was prepared and 4 articles were selected among them. The results of the studies were divided into four groups: 1) the frequency of tooth brushing, 2) thooth brushing methods, 3) the benefits of tooth brushing, 4) the effects, benefits and procedure of the toothpick use. Conclusion: Considering quranic verses and Hadiths can have a positive effect on oral health. In the field of oral health, Islam has emphasized prevention and has given it priority over treatment. Today's science of dentistry is based on the principle of prevention, which is in line with religious teachings.
