Chest x ray examination in children with pneumonia in Tabriz children hospital
Abstract
Pneumonia remains a major cause of death in developing countries among very young, very old people and people with chronic disease. Most of these are in children is less than five y/o and people older than 75 years.The most common etiology of pneumonia is viral infections.
Methods:In this study, 300 children that were hospitalized because of pneumonia in Tabriz children hospital during the second 6 months of 1396, entered the study. Their medical files extracted, their chest graphies interpreted by expert radiologist and their clinical symptoms and signs examined by expert pediatrician. Finally we compared the type of pneumonia and its radiographic features. So the age, sex, lab tests, signs of the disease and, finally, interpretation of chest radiographies entered the checklist.
Results: The mean age of the patients, was 6/09 ± 2/45. 179patients male (59/7 percent) and 121 were females (40 / 3%). The most common clinical signs and symptoms were cough and then crackle. The average of ESR was 27/86 ± 22/73 mm / h at this study. In this study, 174 patients (58 per cent) had negative CRP, 57 patients (19 per cent) had 1+CRP and 50 patients (16.7 percent) 2+ and 19 patients had 3+CRP (6/3 %) . 238 patients (79/3 percent) had normal range of WBC and 62 patients (20 / 7 % ) had a high WBC level. No patients admitted in ICU.4 patients were found with positive blood culture. 27 patients (9 %) hadPleural effusion. The peribronchial involvement was seen in 246 patients (82 %). It should be noted that 63 patients (21 %) had one lung involvement and 237 patients (79 percent) had bilateral involvement inCXR. in terms of the abundance of radiographic evidence, the most common pattern of was reticulonodular then alveolar and lobar patterns.
