Evaluating the effect of systematic patient and family education in the psychiatric emergency room on the process of receiving mental health care services
Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the change in the trend of receiving mental health services in the emergency department of Razi Psychiatric Hospital in Tabriz before and after systematic patient and family education and its effect on the symptoms of the disease and the patient's treatment process.
Methods and Materials:The strategy used in this study was that at first, 54 emergency medical patients with psychiatric disorders were randomly selected as the control group. The control group included patients who only received hospital services, four weeks later with Patients were contacted and the questionnaire was completed according to patients' responses. In the next step, 54 patients from the emergency department were selected randomly as members of the intervention group. The intervention group includes patients who, in addition to using the current hospital services, are accompanied by a resident under the training of content prepared by psychiatric professors. Regular contacts were also conducted with patients in the intervention group for 4 weeks after discharge. After completing the training, the questionnaire was completed by the patient and the results were analyzed by SPSS.
Results: In the present survey, the results of this study revealed the effect of education of the patient on his regular referral to a physician, reducing the frequency of unnecessary visits, taking regular medications and further improving the symptoms of the patient, and in all cases Pvalue < 0.05 confirmed this and In connection with the referral to the relevant specialist, Pvalue> 0.05 showed that there is no significant relationship between patient education and referral to a relevant specialist, which could be due to study limitations.
