Comparison of Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound Index in Large and small vessel infarction in stroke patient
Abstract
Despite the recent drug progress, Stroke still is a diagnostic and therapeutic problem.
Material and Methods
In this study, 100 patients with acute Stroke that admitted in the hospital were divided into two groups of 50 patients, including "Large vessel stroke" and "small vessel stroke." These patients evaluated with transcranialdoppler ultrasonography and PSV, EDV, AMV, PI and Waveform Morphology indices were measured in each artery, then each index in small vessel stroke group were compared statistically with their corresponding side of the large vessel stroke group. Data were analyzed by SPSS and P-value less than 0.05 was defined as statistically significant.
Result
Results showed that the PI ultra-sonographic index had a statistically significant difference inRight Middle Cerebral Artery (P-value = 0.003) and Left (P-value = 0.002), Right Internal Carotid Artery(P-value = 0.008) and Left (P-value = 0.022), Left Anterior Cerebral Artery (P-value = 0.01), Right Ophthalmic Artery (P-value = 0.03) and Right Vertebral Artery (P-Value = 0.024), as well as TIBI index in Right Middle Cerebral Artery (P-value = 0.002) and Left (P-value = 0.015), as well as EDV index in the Right Internal Carotid Artery (P-Value = 0.011) and Left (P-Value = 0.008) on their corresponding side in the two groups.
