Assessment of the Glidescope on the Cardiovascular Responses to Laryngoscopy and Tracheal Intubation in the Elderly Patients Undergoing Gynecologic Surgery
Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the Glidescope on the cardiovascular responses to laryngoscopy and tracheal intubation in the elderly patients undergoing gynecologic surgery.
Materials and Methods:In this clinical trial, 70 elderly patients ≥60 years, ASA class I-III, and scheduled for gynecologic surgery, undergoing general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation were studied. Tracheal Intubation was performed using by Glidescope (study group; n=35) or Macintosh Laryngoscope (Control group; n=35)
Results:Frequency of increased blood pressure after tracheal intubation was significantly lower in the study group (20%) than the control group (45.7%) (p=0.002). The mean of systolic blood pressure was significantly smaller in the study group at 1 (130.2±18.9 vs 144.9±18.5 mmHg; p=0.002), 2 (127.4±14.4 vs 138.5±16.0 mmHg; p=0.003) and 3 (125.2±11.2 vs 141.5±26.6mmHg; p=0.003) minutes.
