The Relationship between Job Stress, Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Quality of Work Life among Nurses in Educational Hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, 2016

Abstract
Abstract: Background: In the health system, one of the objectives of managers is improving employee’s function and the quality of services provided for costumers. Few factors may improve these services. Among these factors, quality of work life and Organizational Citizenship Behaviors have been introduced as effective significant factors in the quality of services provided. Work stress is one of the effective factors responsible for developing physical, mental and behavioral consequences among nurses. The relationship of occupational stress with nurse’s Organizational Citizenship Behaviors and quality of work life has not been fully understood. Thus, this study aimed to assess the relationship between job stress and nurse’s OCB and quality of work life. Material and Methods: In this descriptive-correlational study, 300 individuals of the personnel of the hospitals of Tabriz were recruited by stratified systematic random sampling. Instruments for gathering data were Demographic characteristics and Nurses Stress Scale (NSS) and Quality of Nurses Work Life (QNWL) and OCB questionnaires. Data were analyzed by the SPSS version 23 software using descriptive statistics including: frequency, mean and standard deviation, and analytical statistics including: Pearson correlation coefficient, independent t-test, and variance analysis. Results: Most of the nurses were highly stressed in work, having a significant association with sex and type of employment. Also, work stress had a negative correlation with age and work experience. Nurses level of OCB was high and had a significant association with type of hospital, ward of service, organizational position and type of employment. Additionally, OCB had a positive correlation with age, work experience and salary. Also, QNWL was moderate among participants and had a significant association with organizational position, type of employment and salary. In this study, There was no significant association between job stress and OCB. the relationship between nurse’s job stress and QNWL was negative and significant. Also, the relationship between OCB and quality of work life was positive and significant. Conclusion: Job stress and OCB are the most effective factors on nurse’s quality of work life that requires further deliberation regarding assessing other effective factors for making changes in nurse’s quality of work life. Thus, efficient planning in the event of reducing nurses job stressors and Increasing the quality of work life of nurses by measuring the quality of work life of nurses by managers and accomplishing the perspectives of OCB by holding sufficient educational courses and workshops among staff could have a significant effect on invigorating job satisfaction, trust, function and efficiency of the organization.
