Survay of Prevalence of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia and its risk factors in preterm neonates whit gestational age less than 34 weeks in Tabriz Alzahra hospital
Abstract
The incidence of disease is highly variable in very low birth weight neonates, ranging from 11 to 57 %. In multivariate analysis, BPD has been significantly associated with gender, treatment with surfactant and PDA. Due to the high prevalence of BPD and it´s physical and psychological effects , we decided to investigate its prevalence in our region as well as its risk factors to be able to prevent further damage by recognizing this risk factors.
Methods: The study was conducted on all premature infants (with less than 34 weeks of pregnancy) that were hospitalized in one year (from June 2017 to June 2018) which have the inclusion criteria for study, and the questionnaire was completed for them. In all babies, demographic information and risk of common factors were extracted and the required information was entered into the check - list. Finally, the data collected from the questionnaires was extracted and analyzed.
Results: 488 neonates entered the study. The prevalence of BPD in this study was 15.6%. there was statistically significant relationship between GA, BW, surfactant and vitamin A take, duration of getting oxygen, PDA and sepsis with incidence of BPD (P<0.05). Whereas there wasn’t an association between PROM and chorioamnionitis with incidence of BPD (respectively P=0.9, P=0.33). Relationship between apgar score and sex with BPD incidence wasn’t statistically significant (respectively P=0.42, P=0.19).
