The Relationship between Academic Burnout and Leisure Satisfaction among Nursing Students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.

Background: Burnout in nursing students is one of the challenges that could influence the students’ academic achievement and damage their mental health and job prospects while improvement of satisfaction with leisure time can improve growth, and development of skills in various fields of science and generally provide academic integrity. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between academic burnout and satisfaction with leisure time in the nursing students.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study a total of 351 nursing students from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Tabriz (Iran) were participated. The study conducted from December 2015 to Jun 2016. Data were collected by demographics tool ,academic burnout questionnaire, and leisure satisfaction questionnaire (LSS). Data was analyzed using SPSS statistical software and due to the evaluation type of the variables, descriptive statistics and correlation were used and finally multiple regression analysis was used to explain students' academic burnout.
Results: The results showed inverse negative correlation between academic burnout with the satisfaction of leisure time (r=-0.42 and P<0.001). There was also negative correlation between the academic burnout and satisfaction of leisure activities (P<0.05). Regression analysis results demonstrated that among the six components of satisfaction with leisure activities, three components of the aesthetic, social, and physiological play major roles in explaining academic burnout and can totally predict 19% of the students' academic burnout.
Conclusion: Due to the results of this study, it is suggested that the authorities of universities should develop and provide some facilities for enjoying leisure time and help the students to participate in favorite sport and physical activities in the academic campus or off campus.
