Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: The use of hookah in young people is increasing and there is increasing evidence that hookah has a negative effect on infectious and noncommunicable diseases. There are many reasons for the impact of social networking on health. Considering the increase in hookah consumption in the country, its beginning from adolescence, its consumption in a social way, considering the importance of social networks, and its role in shaping behavior, the present study was designed and run with the youth in Hashtroud city with the aim of determining the impact of social network development on the decrease of hookah consumption in hookah consumers. Materials and Methods: Using convenient sampling method, this pilot study was conducted with two groups - intervention and control group. In total, 133 people participated in the present study. Intervention at three levels, i.e., individual, social and environmental factors for the test group was performed by forming a virtual social network in the telegram. At the same time, true networks inside the coffee houses were arranged for 8 weeks. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 23). Results: The prevalence of hookah consumption and the duration of hookah consumption in the intervention group significantly decreased after intervention. Despite the decrease in hookah consumption, there was no conceivable change in cigarette smoking. Furthermore, with the establishment and development of the social network, sensitivity, severity and social support increased and perceived remuneration was significantly reduced after the intervention in comparison with prior to the intervention. However,. Environmental changes at coffeehouses level were carried out simultaneously with changes in the individual and social levels to reduce hookah consumption Conclusion: By establishing a supportive social network and performing multivariate interventions, the behavior of hookah consumers can be significantly reduced.
