Abstract
Introduction: Contamination of drinking water with arsenic is a global problem and longterm consumption of arsenic-contaminated water can lead to various health complications in the consumers. Considering Ardebil water which is contaminated by arsenic, this issue was examined scientifically during this study. The main purposes of this study were examining the condition of polluted drinking water of distribution networks and also drinking water wells of ardabil to arsenic, determining the effect of geological structure on arsenic concentrations and finally providing suitable solutions for solving the problem and water treatment in order to provide safe drinking water in accordance with national and international standards. Materials and Methods: GFAA was used for the analysis of arsenic. 41 samples in the fall season and 51 samples in the spring season from network, wells and Ardabil water treatment plant was prapared and analysed. Results: The concentrations of arsenic in Ardabil drinking water network in fall was at least zero and the most 83 µg/l and in the spring these values were zero and 21 μg/l. In studied wells of Ardabil in the fall arsenic concentration was at least zero and the most 110 µg/l and in the spring these values were 47 and 222 μg/l, respectively. There was a significant correlation between the concentrations of arsenic and electrical conductivity values, this means that by increasing the minerals of well water the amount of arsenic directly increased (r= 0.828, p<0.001). Conclusion: This study showed that some of Ardabil drinking water wells contain Unauthorized amounts of arsenic that could result from the geological structure of the region (activities and volcanic sediments). Considering the importance of arsenic exposure through drinking water and the health effects caused by it, it is necessary to employ corrective actions in this issue and some of these could be preventing the entrance of Contaminated surface water into the YamchiDam(Hot waters effluent of the region), Not using of water of contaminated wells, Construction of water treatment plant for treatment of water of contaminated wells within the city Using the process of coagulation and flocculation with ferric chloride, the use of domestic water purifiers in contaminated areas of the city and greater use of Aab beyglou water well
