Psychiatric disorders in patients with diabetes between 5-18 years
Abstract
Diabetes is not a single dysfunction; it is a group of metabolic disorders that current type is hyperglycemia. Diabetes is one of the prevalent diseases in the world with an abundance of 382 million in 2013, which predicted to reach 592 million people by 2035, leading to 4 million deaths, annually. Diabetic Mellitus (DM) has ranged the seventh cause of death in the United States. The predominance of diabetes is approximately the same in most age groups between men and women. The highest and the lowest prevalence of type 1 diabetes is in Scandinavia and the Pacific, respectively. Regarding the high prevalence of psychiatric disorders in diabetic patients and the magnitude of the treatment process, this study designed to test a psychiatric examination in diabetic patients and evaluate the results obtained in psychiatric fields.
Materials and methods: This is the case series research of patients with a descriptive statistical method in a prospective and post-traumatic way by 2018 among patients referring to the specialized services of the Sheikhol Raeis clinic in Tabriz. Patients referred to the Golghasht Clinic and the Psychiatric Clinic of Tabriz asked to fill out the census and interviewed by the researcher. This questionnaire is a semi-structured diagnostic interview designed to diagnose children and adolescent disorders according to the DSM TR-IV standards and completed by a psychiatrist in an interview with the parents. Considerably, K-SADS diagnoses psychiatric disorders. In Iran, Ghanizadeh et al reported the reliability of the Persian version of
the K-SADS test by a reciprocal test of 0.81 and an inter-rater of 0.69. Reflecting that the new k-sads Persian version based on DSM-V was used in this project at the time of sampling and afterward.
Results: In this study, of 73 cases, the highest frequency was for people with depression, (7) 19.44% in male children and (9) 24.32% in female children, and the least frequency in ADHD disorders calculated 6.84%, OCD2.7%, and PTSD 1.4%. The majority of subjects were, female (51%), and in terms of age, subjects aged 5-12, 68.5% of people with mental illness background.
