The Effect of Individual Sexual Counselling on Psychosocial Status of Post MI Patients: Single-Blinded Randomized Clinical Trial

Abstract: Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is current illness in this century and case of given are increasing. Myocardial infarction is one of current cause of this patient’s admission that create different problems. One of this problems is decrease or non-performance of sexual activity after MI that studies demonstrate nonperformance of sexual activity can to be effective on psychosocial situation (anxiety, depression, sexual satisfaction and quality of life) in this patients. One cause of nonperformance of sexual activity is lack of sufficient information about sexual activity after MI.
Goal: Cause of nonperformance of sexual activity in this patients is fear of illness relapse, thus we hoop that we can improvement psychosocial situation in this patients with awareness increase with sexual consultation.
Material and Methods: In this study we use three questionnaire: NSSS questionnaire for asses of sexual satisfaction level, HADS questionnaire for asses of anxiety and depression and QOLI-Cardiac IV questionnaire for asses of quality of life. Early we performance pretest and then give verbal and written sexual consultation and then performance posttest after 6 weak. Data’s was analyses with SPSS-13 software.
Results: According by illative statistics, mean scores in QOLI-Cardiac IV in intervention group and NSSS questionnaires were increase in posttest from pretest and in HADS questionnaire was decrease in posttest from pretest. According by this statements all of subscales in QOLI-Cardiac IV questionnaire except social and economic in control group and family in both of intervention and control groups, two subscales of HADS questionnaire and subscales of NSSS questionnaire except A subscale in intervention group have significant relation (P value<0.05) with sexual consultation. Finally QOLI-Cardiac IV questionnaire in control group and NSSS questionnaire in intervention group have not significant relation (P value<0.05) with sexual consultation but other variables have significant relation (P value<0.05) with sexual consultation.
Conclusion: Sexual consultation can had positive effect in decrease of anxiety and depression in MI patients. This positive effect will beneficial in resume and increase of sexual activity and finally in increase of sexual satisfaction in MI patients.
