Cd(OH) 2 nanostructures with novel plate-like morphology were prepared through the use of a two-step, template- and surfactant-free, environmentally friendly method using of cadmium chloride with ammonia solution at room temperature. Cd(OH) 2 consisted of a plate-like structure. The structure was comprised of densely packed regular sheets, with thickness of 77-630nm, which was assembled together. Cd(OH) 2 nanostructures, through the use of thermal dehydration at 500آ°C in 2h, have been converted to CdO nanoparticles. Possible formation mechanism of the Cd(OH) 2 is proposed. The present method is simple, mild, and cheap, which makes it feasible for scale-up production of Cd(OH) 2 and CdO nanostructures. é 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
