Cd(OH)(2) nanostructures with novel plate-likemorphology were prepared through the use of a two-step, template-and surfactant-free, environmentally friendly method using of cadmium chloride with ammonia solution at room temperature. Cd(OH)(2) consisted of a plate-like structure. The structure was comprised of densely packed regular sheets, with thickness of 77-630 nm, which was assembled together. Cd(OH)(2) nanostructures, through the use of thermal dehydration at 500 degrees C in 2 h, have been converted to CdO nanoparticles. Possible formation mechanism of the Cd(OH)(2) is proposed. The present method is simple, mild, and cheap, which makes it feasible for scale-up production of Cd(OH)(2) and CdO nanostructures.
