Comparison of antimicrobial effect of MTA Fillapex and AH26 Root canal sealers at different setting times
Abstract
The main goal of endodontic treatment is elimination of microorganisms and their by-products from infective root canal. This study aimed to compare the antimicrobial effect of two different sealers,AH26 and MTA Fill Apex against 7 microorganism in 24,48,72 hours and 7days after mixing. MATERIALS AND METHODS The microorganisms used in this study were Lactobacillus acidophilusI? Lactobacillus casei, Staphylococcus Aureus, Enterococcus faecalis bacteria, Candidia Albicans,Candidia Glabrata and Candidia Krusei fungi that are etiologic factors of dental infections to study the antimicrobial properties of materials in the root canal treatment. This test is based on growth of bacteria and turbidity measurement technique using a spectrophotometer and Direct Contact Test was conducted by direct and indirect methods. Multiple comparisons were done using analysis of variances (ANOVA) with Reapeted measures and Scheffe,Maukhy tests. RESULTS The antimicrobial effect of both sealers increased over time significantly. The antimicrobial effect in Indirect method was more than Direct method in both sealers. The comparison of sealers showed that the antimicrobial effect of MTA Fill Apex in Direct method is significantly less than AH26 in all times . The antimicrobial effect of in both sealers studied were similar in Indirect method at all times. CONCLUSION -The antimicrobial effect of MTA Fillapex sealer is significantly less than AH26 sealer in Direct method. -The antimicrobial effect of both sealers similar in Indirect method.
