The evaluation of the knowledge of general dentists of Tabriz about indications, benefits and limitations of cone beam computed tomography in 2010

Abstract

Cone beam computed tomography use for orthodontic treatment , insert of implant, Evaluation of TMJ . The aim of this study was to evaluation of the knowledge of general dentists of Tabriz about indications , benefits and limitations of cone beam computed tomography in 2010. Material and Methods: This descriptive cross- sectional study was done on 200 general dentists who had private offices in Tabriz in 2010. A questionnaire regarding CBCT was prepared . The questionnaires were delivered to dentists at their offices and then gathered . The data were analyzed via SPSS software by student s test, spearman correlation coefficients. Results: There were 200 dentists (114 male and 36 female) with the mean age of 40.74 years. The mean score of knowledge about implication , limitation and advantage were 34.69, 12.57& 9 respectively. There was positive Correlation between implication of CBCT with limitation and advantage of CBCT There was no significant difference between age with implication , limitation and advantage of CBCT. Conclusion: Knowledge of dentists in Tabriz about CBCT was moderate. So application of strategies to increase the knowledge of dentists regarding CBCT is necessary.
