The effects of various additives on setting time of calcium enriched mixture
Abstract
Cement CEM (Calcium Enriched Mixture) is a new cement in dentistry. When it is blended with water solution. It produces calcium and bioactive phosphate. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of adding chlorhexidine and sodium Hypochlorite on the setting time of Cement CEM. Materials and Methods: In this study, the setting times for CEM Cement were evaluated in three states: liquid CEM +CEM with chlorhexidein, liquid CEM+CEM with sodium hypochlorite + liquid CEM+CEM. In 27 studied samples we analyzed the data through descriptive statistics, ANOVA and Tukey test. Results: The setting time for CEM mixed with its liquid was 105 min. CEM mixed with its liquid and cholrhoexidine set in 120 min and CEM mixed with its liquid and sodium hypochlorite set in 220 min. Sodium hypochlorite ,Chlorhexidine Significantly extended the setting time of CEM Cement. Conclusion: It was found that sodium hypochlorite Chlorhexidine extended the setting time of CEM cement.
