Abstract
it has been shown that smear layer removal will increase cement retention. Different manufacturers have offered various primers for getting and ideal bond but there are questions about theier efficiencies in smear layer removal and if etching will increase bond strength of the cement. The aim of this study is to find out if canal etching will increase the bond strength of the cast posts cemented with Xeno. Methods and materials: 32 human extracted canine teeth were root filled and a duralay impression was prepared and cast posts were fabricated. In the test group, the canal was etched using 37% phosphoric acid. Saline was used instead in the control group.posts were cemented with Xeno and pull-out forces were recorded. Data were analysed by independent t test. Results: echted group showed a statistically significant more pull out resistance compared to the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion:ectching the canal befor cementing casted posts with Xeno cement will significantly increase the retension of the posts.
