Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant effects of melatonin, melatonin and vitamin C alone and synergistic effects on periodontal clinical parameters. The study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, single-center, phase one trial takes place. In this study, 69 patients older than 20 years will be enrolled. classified the patients in the study group for the Blind before entering the study will be: 1 Protocol 1 (treatment phase): first, for each patient after charting, oral hygiene instruction is given and in charting index PD, BOP, CAL, plaque index, measured by the periodontist is unaware of the study. Pocket depth and attachment level measurements are performed in six areas of each tooth.Measuring the adhesion of the stent edges of preparation done before, then l patients treated with scaling and root planing the smooth surface in two sessions a week are at a distance. And for this purpose hand tools and devices will be used Rabercup and pumice paste and placebo in the form of a supplement to other patients are prepared. 2. Protocol 2 (Phase One treatment with melatonin administration): the implementation of the protocols 1, 2 mg melatonin supplement prescription pill, a pill every night for 30 days. 3. Protocol 3 (Phase One treatment with melatonin administration and vitamin C), the performance of all acts of protocol 1, prescribe supplements of melatonin 2mg per night a 30-day prescription pill vitamin for women and 60 mg for men and 75 mg one times per day for 30 day. clinical parameters before treatment and after 3 and 6 months post-treatment Finding:Analysis of the data showed that the treatment group in all the groups on variables CAL and PD and BOP and PL is effective. (p < 0.05) Except for a period of 3 to 6 months for BOP variable that does not help in any group (p > 0.05). CAL and PD for two-variable analysis, recovery rate between groups showed that the treatment in all groups on the effective recovery of these two variables (p < 0.05) The frequency of qualitative analysis of clinical variables and PL BOP shows that, in people with these variables, respectively, from 100% at the beginning of treatment, in group 1 (control) to 17.4% and 21.7%, in the group 2 (melatonin) to 8.7% and 30.4% in group 3 (melatonin and vitamin C) to 4.3% and 30.4% is reached. Conclusion: Compare the pace and variable recovery rate of CAL, PD and BOP for the higher group. The effect of melatonin in group 2 compared to the control group and synergistic effects of melatonin and vitamin C in the third group. To both shows and at the same impact on treatment every 2 variable PL in groups 2 and 3 and More effective treatment in group A (control) on the variable PL can be seen. The results of this study may Melatonin can be said in terms of inflammation and oxidative stress, antioxidant and cellular protection, and periodontitis Stimulating the regeneration of damaged parts can be repaired and when it plays well with the effects of vitamin C Positive increase, but no effect on plaque index variable relative to the control was observed.
