Abstract
Mineral Trioxide Aggregate(MTA) is used for filling of root end cavities , direct pulp capping, repairing furcation perforations and apexification .Therefore, improving its physical properties and their stability is of great importance to ameliorate endodontic treatments. There are some studies about adding TiO2 nanoparticles to different materials since these particles have significant mechanical properties that can help improve physical properties of these materials. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of adding TiO2 nanoparticles to MTA on its physical properties (setting time, working time ,compressive strength, push out bond strength ). Materials and methods: Samples were divided into four groups and one physical property was studied in each group with and without adding TiO2 nanoparticles.Compressive strength was evaluated by Universal Testing Machine equipment where samples were filled in cylinders. Setting time according to the recommended procedures in ISO and working time was determined by measuring the diameter of the substance located between two slabs. For push out test, samples were inserted into the separated and prepared parts of tooth canals and were applied to pressure by universal testing machine. Results: According to the statistical analysis of this study, compressive strength and push out bond strength results in MTA+TiO2 group were significantly more than MTA ones(P<0.001). Regarding setting time and working time, MTA+TiO2 samples have significantly longer setting time and working time than MTA samples (P<0.001) . Conclusion: Based on the findings of this in vitro study, adding TiO2 nanoparticles to MTA results in increasing compressive strength and push out bond strength, however; this addition caused prolonged setting time and working time
