The comparison of the level of occupational stress among the specialists of different fields of dentistry in tabriz in 2014

Abstract

stress is a reaction to cope with a factor or condition that exerts mental or physical pressure on the person. Among the different jobs, dentistry is usually considered as stressful job. Stress in dentistry is mostly due to the nature of clinical work, workplace and type of the individuals who choose it and concentration on the small working space in the mouth cavity. In different studies occupational stress among dentists has been researched and it has been shown that different factors cause to stress. Stress in specialist fields of dentistry and among Iranian dentists has not been investigated. This research was conducted by the aim of studying stress among dentistry specialists. Materials and methods: For doing so, dentistry specialists in Tabriz were studied in 2014 and their stress was measured by HSE standard questionnaire. Stress level was measured in dentistry by descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation). For data analysis statistical software SPSS version 20 was used. For mean comparison of different groups Kruskel-Wallis test was used. P significance level was considered meaningful less than 0.05 for comparison of means. In case of significance post hoc test or U Mann Whitney test were used. Findings: According to the results of this research the highest stress among different fields of dentistry is seen in mouth and jaw radiology and then in four fields of mouth diseases and diagnosis of mouth diseases, endodontic, mouth, jaw and facial surgery and pediatric dentistry and the lowest stress was seen in endodontic specialists.
