The comparision of antibacterial effect of three diferent types of self-adhesive resin cements on Streptococcus mutans in different time sequences

Abstract

To evaluate the antibacterial activity of three different self adhesive resin cements on Streptococcus Mutans in different time sequences. Materials and methods: The modified direct contact test was used to evaluate the antibacterial effect of MaxCem, GCem and BisCem on streptococcus mutans after aging the samples in phosphate buffer saline for one hour, 24 hours and 1 week. Data were analyzed using Repeated Measurement ANOVA and Tukey HSD. Results: Analysis showed significant difference between the mean number of bacteria in BisCem,GCem and MaxCem in all three time scales (p<0.001). Comparison of mean number of the bacteria in different groups according to the studied times showed significant difference between all 3 groups and their control groups at the time of 1 hour and 24 hours (p<0.001) but not after 1 week (p<0.1). At the time of 1 hour the mean number of bacteria in GCem group was lower than MaxCem and in MaxCem was lower than BisCem (p<0.0005). In 24 hours also the mean number of bacteria in MaxCem group was lower than BisCem and in BisCem was lower than GCem (p<0.0005). Tukey HSD showed no significant difference between 3 studied groups in 1week (p<0.1). Conclusion: All tested cements exhibited antibacterial activity against Streptococcus Mutans after 1 hour and 24 hours. After 1 hour GCem, MaxCem and BisCem showed the strongest antibacterial effect respectively. After 24 hours the order changed to MaxCem, BisCem and GCem. There was no significant difference between groups in 1 week
