Investigation of serumic calcium in patients with erosive lichen planus
Abstract
Lichen planus is a mucocutaneous disorder with unknown ethiology, which may have lots of ethiological factors like imonological ones. This disease has lots of clinical features which erosive is the most important although its low prevalence and this is because of signes like pain , irritation and risk of malignancy and despite using different drugs , there isn't any actual treatment for it. Objective: By knowing the role of calcium in wound healing procedures and regulating imune system , its role can be considered as one of the factors causing the disease. This issue is to investigate the serumic total and ionized calcium of patients with erosive oral lichen planus. Methods and materials : 36 patients with oral erosive lichen planus and 72 control subjects were selected randomly and their total and ionized serum calcium were investigated by ISI and Crosolphthalein complex methods. Descriptive statistics as well as two sample t-test , were applied to the data using Spss .15 software. Results: According to the results , the mean numbers of total and ionized serum calcium in patient group (8.8 mg/dl , 1.11 mmol/L) and in control subjects (9.4 mg/dl , 1.18 mmol/L) , there were statistically significant differences in total and ionized serum calcium between the groups. Conclusion: It was found that total and ionized serum calcium in patients with oral lichen planus is lower than control subjects.
