Investigating the efficiency of autoclaves in dental offices of Tabriz dental specialists in elemination of the spor of Bacillus stearothermophilus in 2012
Abstract
Introduction:Sterilization of instruments is one of the necessary procedures which can effectively prevent disease transmission especially blood transmitted diseases.Autoclaves is one of the most effective instruments that is widely used in dentistry offiices .the aim of present study is the Investigating the efficiency of autoclaves in dental offices of Tabriz dental specialists in elemination of the spor of Bacillus stearothermophilusin 1391. Methods And materials:In a analytic-cross sectional study in 2011 on autoclave units in specialist dentists C offices in Tabriz,70 offices were randomly selected amongst 84 offices, 70 indicator of stream sterilization which contained bacterial spore of Geobacillus stearothermophilus and medium was prepared from TERRAGENE company of Argentina and delivered to participants. We asked participants to place the indicator in the center of the instrumnets in a work period of autoclave ,the glass container of medium was broken so the medium and bacterial spore to be contacted, and then the medium was incubated in 60 degrees of centigrade in the ATTEST biological incubator . the change in the color of medium was interpretated as spore growth and failure in the sterilization process .all data was analyzed using SPSS software. Findings: in 60 cases(85.7%) sterilization was correct and in 10 cases(14.3%) sterilization was incorrect, the repair history was at least with no repair history and most for 5 times of repair, the mean times of repair was 0.701.15 times, the minimum use time of autoclave was 1 and most time was 15 years with a mean time of 5.993.61 years.there was a significant correlation between the using time of autoclavem, repair history of the autoclave and autoclave class in one hand and its efficacy in sterilization on the other hand, which means that the more times of autoclave usage and repair timesm the more reduce in the sterilization efficacy(P=0.007,R=0.332 and P=0.026,R=-0.268) the most efficacy was seen in the Class B devices. Conclusion: Autoclaves in the sterilization of dentistry instruments has a high and accaptable efficacy , change and repairment of autoclaves and continues monitoring of autoclaves in dentistry offices is suggested using biological tests
