Frequency of oral mucosal lesions referred oral medicine department of dental faculty of Tabriz university of medical sciences 1386 to 1391
Abstract
one of the primary measures to make right plans in order to promote the state of education, sanitation, prevention and treatment of disease is to determine the prevalence of various diseases. Considering the importance of oral epidemiologic studies and the importance of an early diagnosis of pre-malignant lesions and making accurate plans in order to give a high priority to treatment of theses lesions, this study is aimed at determining the prevalence of oral lesions based on age and gender of subjects between years 1386- 1391 in Northwest of Iran. Methods: in this study all the files existing in oral diseases section of Tabriz Dentistry Faculty, from the beginning of 1386 to the end of 1391 were surveyed With total counting method and then the files related to patients suffering from oral lesions were separated . The required data were obtained from the files and inserted in related checklists. The obtained data will be studied by statistical software SPSS16 using descriptive statistics methods ( percentage- frequency, average criterion deviation ). Results: In this study, the files of 8200 patients were examined. As a whole 515 patients were sufferring from oral lesions that included 96 types of lesions. the most common was Epolis fissuratom (14.4 percent ) and after that there were lichen planus Candidiasis, Recurrent Aphtus Ulcerative ,and Periferal Giant Cell Granuloma in sequence. The greatest number of lesions were in the lip and cheek area. After that they were in tongue and floor of mouth. Discussion and Conclusion: in general, the observed differences in prevalence of some lesions could be a result of cultural and ethnic variety and differences in nutritional habits, sanitary conditions, geographical area under study. Therefore the comparison of this studyEs results with other epidemiologic studies, especially with studies which have been carried out in European countries and the USA, would be difficult due to mentioned differences.
