Frequency of oral mucosal disease in dental faculty of Tabriz in 2007
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of oral mucosal disease in patients attending to Oral Medicine Center of Tabriz Dental School. Methods & Materials: The method of sampling was consecutive,with using the poisson's method and the design of study was cross-sectional.All subjects referring to this center were examined and filled out the questionnaires for them from April to June 2007. Results: Cases were 810 , %29.92 male and %70.07 female. The mean age of the cases was 32.68+- 12.25 years.%69.04 of subjects referring had oral lesion, and %19.2 had normal mucosa. %21.60 of patients had oral mucosal lesions that need to follow and control. The most common lesions were ankiloglossia (%29.7),fissural tongue (%25.7) and coated tongue (%23. 7). Conclusion: Many patients attending the center were unaware of oral lesions in their soft oral tissue which needed to follow up.This emphasizes on examination of soft oral tissue just like teeth periodically by specialists.
